    Capacity Control For Compressors

    Presenter: Phil Hickman

Phil Hickman is a Senior Account Executive with Emerson. He has more than 30 years experience in the HAVC/R industry and a BS degree from Texas A&M University. He joined Emerson Commercial & Residential Solutions in 1998 as a District Manager. Presentation Overview

Many vapor compression refrigerant systems, for both product refrigeration and comfort cooling applications, are required to operate under part load conditions periodically. In order to avoid adverse system operating conditions such as poor humidity control and increased power consumption related to compressor cycling during these periods of part load, it is desirable to utilize some method of compressor unloading in system design.

With the increase in electronic control capability, compressor manufacturers have developed various compressor operation schemes to address this.

This discussion will provide detailed information on two stage scroll compressor design, digital modulation design for both scroll and reciprocating compressors and variable speed compressor design. Through the use of these technological advances, system designers have been able to address and alleviate problems associated with part load refrigerant system operation.

The discussion will conclude with a brief overview of the current state of DOE and EPA impacts on refrigerants utilized in vapor compression equipment.

Fees are $25 for those who RSVP by deadline and $30.00 at the door.
